Ормантаев Камал Саруарович
Kamal Ormantaev is a founder of children's surgery, pediatrics, trauma and anesthesiology in Kazakhstan, Academician of NAS RK (National Academy of Science), laureate of the State Prize for Science, Technology and Education of Kazakhstan, honored worker of science of Kazakhstan, Professor, and Doctor of Medical Sciences.
Kamal Ormantaev was born in 1936 in Kyzylorda region. In 1953 he entered the Pediatric faculty of the Alma-Ata State Medical Institute. After graduation, he was sent to a clinical internship at the Department of Pediatric Surgery. From 1962 till 1965 he studied in graduate school at the department of hospital surgery of Altai Governmental Medical Institute (AGMI), then, he studied for doctorate at the Institute of Pediatrics Medical Sciences of the USSR (Moscow). Kamal Ormantaev began his career as an assistant of the department of pediatric surgery of AGMI. In 1971, after graduating his PhD in the Institute of Pediatrics Medical Sciences of the USSR he defended his doctoral thesis and was awarded the title of professor. He is the first PhD in Pediatric Surgery in Kazakhstan.
He, then, worked as a pediatrician at the district hospital, clinical intern of the department of pediatric surgery of AGMI, head of the department of pediatric surgery of AGMI, dean of the pediatric faculty of AGMI, director of the Institute of Pediatrics Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR.
Kamal Ormantaev is a recognized pediatric surgeon of the highest qualification; he performed nearly twenty thousand complex operations on the organs of the chest, lungs, esophagus, abdomen, skull and kidneys. He was the first in Kazakhstan who made thoracoplasty in congenital funnel chest in children.
From 1968 to 2011, Kamal Ormantaev was a permanent head of the department of pediatric surgery. Under his guidance department became a recognized scientific, practical and organizational center of pediatric surgery of Kazakhstan. In 43 years of department superintendence in pediatric surgery, Kamal Ormantaev prepared more than 1,500 practitioners - a whole galaxy of talented students and followers. Under his supervision more than 200 masters and doctoral dissertations were defended.
In addition, for many years, Kamal Ormantaev was dean of the pediatric faculty of AGMI. He is the author of more than 320 scientific papers, including 9 chapters of the manual in pediatric surgery and 9 monographs. His monograph "On the severe traumatic brain injury in children" in the 80 years was published in Leningrad.
He is the author of "Childhood Trauma", "Intraosseous washing osteomyelitis in children", "Ecology and health of children." His monograph called "Child Trauma" (1978) was awarded the Al-Farabi Kazakh SSR MOH (Ministry of Healthcare). Kamal Ormantaev published 13 collections of scientific papers and conference proceedings and 8 methodical recommendations. Together with his students he developed and put into practice 22 inventions.
For his merits in the field of health Kamal Ormantaev, in 1999, was awarded the Order "Parasat". In 2004 he was awarded the "Tarlan". In addition he was recognized as the best doctor of the year "Altyn Adam" in 2000 and 2002.
